The amplifier shown in the figure has features for the maximum amplitude of the output signal to be adjusted regardless of the voltage used in the supply. Thus, the gain is given by the R1 / R2 ratio and adjusted to a maximum given by the adjustments of R3 and R4. The circuit transfer curve is shown in the graph below.
