This circuit is the traditional 555 oscillator that produces a hum in the piezoelectric transducer, imitating the sound of an insect. With that the females (who bite) are separated because they do not support the noise. This type of device has its efficiency dependent on the setting and the type of insect, according to all the versions that we have seen in similar articles.
