With this circuit, rectifier diodes, of general use for both silicon and germanium, can be tested. If the diode is OK, only one LED will come on. The transformer has a secondary winding of 4 to 9 V with a current of 50 mA or more. If the two LEDs light up, the diode is shorted and if both remain off, the diode is open. A small brightness in one of the LEDs and the other lit, indicates leakage.
