This old circuit that makes use of germanium transistors, can be modernized with the use of silicon transistors such as BC558. The relay can be 6 or 12 V depending on the power used and the LDR is common. The 100k resistor in parallel with the LDR can be exchanged for a potentiometer of the same value for sensitivity adjustment.
