The original transistor for this circuit from a 1973 publication is germanium, but a silicon transistor such as the TIP32 and a 6 V power supply or large batteries can be used. Resistor R1 is 2k2. Capacitor C1 can have values between 10uF and 47uF and C2 from 10 to 47nF, depending on the desired frequency response. The input of the circuit is connected to the output of MP3 headphones, small portable radios and other devices that eventually use headphones. It may be necessary to connect a 47 ohms resistor in parallel with the input if distortion occurs.
