We got this circuit in an old 1983 publication, but it can be fitted with equivalent transistors. For Q1 we can use 2N3055, BC558 for Q3 and BC548 for Q2. This circuit can be used in a battery charger, as it is originally intended to be connected to the output of a dynamo. The maximum current is of the order of 3 A. The 2N3055 must have a heat sink.
