This circuit from the 80's can be easily implemented but needs some changes to avoid problems with the original version. For example, potentiometer P1 must have a 100-ohm x 1 W resistor in series to limit the base current of the transistor. R1 can be 220-ohm of wire. The transistor is the TIP31 or TIP41 mounted on the radiator and the secondary of the transformer must have a current of 1 A.
