This circuit drives 10 LEDs in sequence at a speed that depends on the setting of P1. For 9 or 12 V supply, increase R1 to 1k. LEDs are common, and the speed range of the discharge can be changed in C1. For an external clock the signal can be applied to pin 14 of the 4017. This circuit is from a book by Newton C. Braga.
