This circuit is from an American documentation from 1976. The FET can be the BF245 or MPF102 and the bipolar one BD135 or another with higher current depending on the application. We can say that this circuit is equivalent to a simplified IGBT with a very high input impedance. The supply voltage can be changed depending on the application.
