We found this circuit in a 1972 RCA technical documentation. The comparator can be any type and C1 should preferably be tantalum. Transistors support equivalents for general use such as BC548. Note that for Q1 the short between collector and base is purposeful so that the reference given by the base-emitter junction is used in the circuit.
