This circuit can supply voltages from 0 to 12 V with currents up to about 5 A, with the adjustment made in P1. Vz must have a value that is the maximum desired voltage at the output, for example, 12 V, but we can use the circuit in sources of voltages in a smaller range, for example, 6. The transistor must be equipped with a heat sink and for smaller currents we can use TIP31 or even BD135.
