The circuit illustrated in the figure can be used to control the speed of small DC motors or the brightness of incandescent lamps. The input voltage can be between 6 and 20 volts and the maximum controlled current is on the order of 5 A. The 2N3055 transistor must be mounted on a good heat radiator.
