This simple circuit with transistors turns on a small lamp when it gets dark. The sensor is an LDR and the transistors can be exchanged for modern silicon equivalents. For AC122, the BD136 can be used and instead of the lamp, high-brightness white LEDs can be lit. The power can be between 6 and 9 V depending on the application.
