This circuit was obtained in a 1976 magazine. We can use the 555 and another BC548 to generate square signals from 20 Hz to 20 kHz with the added potentiometer, that is, with an active cycle of 50%. The capacitor can be changed to obtain signals in other frequency ranges. The period is given by 0.722 / (RL x Cx) in the diagram.
