This circuit was found in an Argentine publication from 1973. It uses a common AM coil (50 + 50 turns of wire 28) to generate a signal of approximately 1 KHz. The exact frequency can be obtained by moving the coil over the ferrite rod. The transistor can be a modern equivalent like the BC548. The supply can be made with voltages from 9 to 12 V. The signal generated is sinusoidal.
