This isolated shield uses a common optical coupler that supports several equivalents. The resistor in series with the emitting LED can be 330 ohms to 5 V and the resistor in parallel can be omitted in most cases. The circuit is from old documentation and the resistor between the base and the emitter is typically 10k.
