This capacitor for small capacitances is based on the tuning of a receiver circuit. The variable is adjusted so that, with the measured capacitance, the resonance is obtained, which will be indicated by the measuring instrument. The circuit is for capacitances of the order of pf having been found in a 1956 Sylvania publication.
