This circuit, from an old Argentine publication, provides 6 W of output from an output of less than 1 W of a common or car radio. The circuit uses germanium power transistors but can be changed to silicon transistors like TIP42 by changing the values of the original resistors. The values are:

R1 = 220 R - common

R2 = 3.9 ohms x 0.5 W

R3, R4 = 1k x 1; 8 W

The transformers are of the driver and output type found in transistor amplifiers of the time. T1 must have its secondary with a central socket to the positive of the supply, not indicated in the diagram.
