The Buck-type DC-DC converter (voltage lowerer) shown in figure 1 is suggested by Analog Devices (www.analog.com) using two new company components. The first is the ADP2503 for 600 mA and the second the ADP2504 for 1000 mA. The switching frequency is 2.5 MHz and the enclosure is only 1 mm high. The input voltages can be in the range of 2.3 V to 5.5 V and the fixed output voltages can be chosen in the range of 2.8 to 5.0 V. The device used also has internal compensation, soft start, protection against overtemperature and short circuit in addition to an undervoltage switch. The quiescent current is only 38 uA and the only external component required is a shock of 1 uH.
